Roller Chain Operating Temperature

What's the recommend ambient working temperatures for roller chain?

Temperatures vary by the material roller chain is manufactured from. There are two separate temperature ratings listed for Nitro roller chain, which are "recommended" and "maximum". Recommended is the ambient temperature range that we prefer that chain to run in. Maximum is the range where that chain can run in, however special precautions need to taken for temperature outside of the recommend.

How To Measure Roller Chain

Roller chain is typically measured by the following points to determine what size chain you have.

  1. Measure the Pitch
  2. Measure the roller diameter
  3. Measure the inner width between the plates

The easiest solution to find what size chain you have is to look at the side plates for a stamped in number.  More than likely you'll need to clean off a few side plates in order to see the size.
