The stainless steel roller chain is an alternative to carbon steel for applications that may require the features of stainless. The primary benefits is the great resistance to corrosion and the ability to withstand extreme temperature ranges. The benefit with Nitro™ stainless roller chains is that our chain always manufactured with with solid rollers and solid bushings. This enhances the the overall strength and helps minimize stretch overtime compared to split roller/bushing chains. We offer this chain in all standard, metric, conveyor and double pitch roller chain sizes. The dimensions of all stainless chains are made to industry standards, allowing them to be directly interchangeable.
Unlike carbon steel chain there are different grades of material used to product stainless chain. The two most common grades is AISI 304 & AISI 316 materials. Both have similar corrosion resistance to many of the same substances, but the AISI 316 does have a better resistance. A few example substances where AISI 306 has resistance over AISI 304 is 5% concentrated sulfuric acid, formic acid and chlorinated water.
Stainless has extraordinary temperature resistance making it a great option for many industries. We suggest staying within the recommend range for AISI 304 stainless (listed below), if possible to maximize the service life. Some temperatures outside of this range are acceptable, however temperature factors will apply and result in much faster wear.
Most stainless steels are usually non-magnetic, however #304 material can have slight magnetic properties due to the cold forming process of the material.
Stainless chain is used in almost every industry across the world. Below is a handful of the common uses that our stainless roller chains are used for.
