Standard Vs Oversized Conveyor Roller Chain

Both conveyor roller chains have very similar dimensions except for the diameter of the roller. Standard conveyor roller chain is your conventional chain that uses a standard diameter roller that is commonly found in most ANSI chains. The oversized conveyor roller chain uses a larger diameter roller, which extends past the height of the link plates. The benefit of oversized rollers is that you have better efficiency, which is acquired by less friction since the chain can roll across a surface. If a standard conveyor roller chain is used in a similar application, then a roller chain guide is required and would create more friction.

A few example uses for both style conveyor chains are automatic packaging systems, bottle filling machines and automotive assembly line systems.
