Press-Fit Connecting Link
Press-fit triple strand connecting links (also known as master links) are engineered to provide the maximum rated strength for your roller chain assembly. Unlike standard slip-fit connecting links, which can compromise a chain's working load capacity by 15%-20%, press-fit links maintain the full working load rating of the ANSI roller chain they are designed for. Center plates that are positioned between the strands are slip-fit design with the outer plate being pressed fit.
Key Advantages of Press-Fit Technology
Full Working Load
The most significant benefit of the press-fit design is that it creates an interference fit between the side plates and the pins, replicating the secure assembly of the rest of the chain. This tight, permanent fit prevents the reduction in the chain's maximum working load capacity (typically a 15%–20% loss with slip-fit designs).
Superior Holding Power in Demanding Environments
This secure interference fit delivers superior holding power and stability. Press-fit links are highly recommended for applications involving:
- High-speed operation
- Repetitive shock loads
- Heavy, continuous loading
- Environments where the calculated working load approaches the chain's maximum rating (e.g., above 40% of the published maximum).
Ideal Applications
Due to their robust design and strength retention, press-fit connecting links are essential components in heavy-duty industrial equipment and demanding power transmission systems, including:
- Industrial Conveyor Systems
- Material Handling Equipment
- Oil and Gas Applications
- Large-scale Power Transmission Drives
Installation Note
The secure, tight fit that provides their performance advantage also means installation is different from standard links. Assembly of a press-fit link requires the side plate to be mechanically pressed or carefully pounded onto the pins to achieve the necessary interference fit. While this makes installation slightly more challenging than a simple slip-fit, the resulting gain in chain strength and reliability is well worth the extra effort.
